History of Montgomery Auction

The Montgomery Family was started in the Auction business in the 1940’s by Ed Montgomery of rural Mankato, KS. He had two sons join the business in the 1900’s, Richard L. “Slim”, & Marvin E, “Andy”. The boys also operated the sale barns in Superior, Red Cloud and Mankato, KS over the next 30+ years.

In 1980, two grandkids started Auctioneering. Ed Hall, son of Ed Montgomery’s daughter Maxine Hall, and Roy Montgomery, son of Slim Montgomery. Both went on to obtain a Real Estate License. In the late 1980’s, early 1990’s, two more grandkids joined the family business, Kelly Bouray, daughter of Andy and Lester, son of Slim. Both have another full time job, but enjoy working in the auctioneering business when time allows.

In the late 1990’s, Andy’s Grandson (Kelly’s son), Neil Bouray started working in the auctioneering business in his early teens. Andy’s son Scot joined in 1998, where in 1999 Neil and Scot attended Auction School. Ross Montgomery, Grandson of Slim (Son of Roy), started selling a few small items at the age of 9. Throughout the Fifty Years of Business, spouses, kids, cousins, aunts & uncles have participated in some aspect of Our Auction Business carrying on a FAMILY TRADITION of Grandpa Ed from the 1940’s.
